Easy Editing of Excel Named Ranges

This Excel plugin allows you to easily edit the very powerful named ranges within Microsoft Excel without battling your way through tons of menus and the silly built-in editor which comes with MS Excel. This tool is freeware and comes without any warranty.

How to use:

1. Install the add-in
Let's say that you have downloaded the add-in to the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Library folder. Launch Microsoft Excel. Under Excel's Tools menu, select Add-Ins. Click the Browse button. The Browse dialog box opens. Go to the location of the add-in and click on your add-in.

Click OK to close the Browse dialog box and return to the Add-Ins dialog box. The add-in should now appear in the "Add-Ins available:" list. Check "excel named ranges" and click OK to close the Add-Ins dialog box. Congratulations, you've just manually installed your add-in.


2. Open the named ranges editor
Just click on "Excel Named Ranges" and then "Open Editor..." in the menu bar to bring up the editor.



3. Add a new named range

Select the cells to which you want to assign a new name and enter the name in the textfield of the editor. Then click "Add Range". You will see a red shape and a comment field popping up. The red shape represents the actual cells to which the name was given.



4. Move your named range
You can move and re-size the shape to alter your named range! It's just that simple.

5. Change the name of your named range

To change the name of your range, just change the text inside the comment field.



6. Remove a named range

To remove a named range simply delete its shape or empty the text inside the comment field.



7. Save changes
To save your changes click "Toggle / Save named ranges" twice. Generally, use this checkbox to show or hide all red shapes and comment fields.
